Overview

What is Achieve Ontario (formerly PREB-Ontario)?

Achieve Ontario is a volunteer recognition program based on Employment and Social Development Canada’s National Occupational Classification.

It allows organizations that engage volunteers to:

Recognize the value of volunteer experience
Assist volunteers in their job search
Access volunteer position descriptions

Who does Achieve Ontario benefit?

Volunteers
Achieve Ontario recognizes their volunteer contributions by highlighting the impact of their work in a formal document. This standardized certificate can help with their job search, as it uses corporate language to align volunteer experience with job competencies. This is great for youth trying to break into the job market, and newcomers trying to gain Canadian experience!

Non-profits
Achieve Ontario helps them recognize the value of volunteer involvement and increases their ability to attract and retain volunteers. The Position Description Bank can be used to write volunteer position descriptions and performance evaluations. It also simplifies volunteer recruitment by helping describe the tasks and skills required for the position, along with any training requirements.

Employers
Achieve Ontario helps them gain a greater understanding and appreciation for the value of volunteer work by putting it in corporate terminology. This also makes it easier for employers to identify a candidate’s experience and skills.

How does Achieve Ontario work?

Achieve Ontario allows certified organizations to issue certificates to their volunteers. The certificate summarizes the experience, responsibilities and skills the volunteer demonstrated during their tenure.

The Ontario Volunteer Centre Network trains staff from Volunteer Centres across Ontario to become Achieve Ontario Certified Trainers
